U.S. Consul Sue Saarnio, Senator Jeff Markley & Congressman J.L. Correa visit The Garden House
We had the honorable visit of Sue Saarnio, Consul General of the United States in Tijuana.
Accompanying the Consul were Senator Jeff Markley and Congressman José Luis Correa.
During his visit, we were able to discuss human trafficking and how it works in the border region. It is a topic of interest for the U.S. Consulate, since the United Nations Diagnosis 2015 of Human Trafficking, points to Tijuana and Mexicali as red dots and identifies the cities as areas of both transit and destination.
We were also able to share the work we do as an organization for prevention, providing the community with the tools to safely prevent and denounce, through conferences, courses on “Detection of Victims of Human Trafficking” and the approach to the vulnerable areas of the city.
Likewise, we presented the work that is carried out within our shelters “La Casa del Jardín”, where children and adolescents surviving some type of abuse and / or exploitation are cared for.
“La Casa del Jardín” is a space where victims of human trafficking are specially treated, providing psychological therapy, medical attention, legal advice and follow-up of their cases, recreational workshops, education, among others.
We are pleased to know that more and more people are getting involved in the issue, working together we can achieve more!
